There is an old adage: “Leaders are born.” In spite of the saying, real leadership is something that develops over time. It is comprised of six key qualities that when brought together bring to the foreground the distinction Leadership. These qualities come to bear when they are out to produce a result.
This is not a matter of rhetoric, but instead something that happens when they are engaged in executing their vision.
Our work will engage your leaders in developing these qualities not by learning theories about leadership but by developing them as they are a requirement of delivering extraordinary results.
The Six Qualities of leadership:
- Futurist - Futurists have the ability to understand the current environment and see through to the future. They are not constrained by the past and are able to see what “wants to happen”. They are able to couple this with the reality that would need to be produced in order for the “wants to happen” to occur.
- Courage - Real leaders stand for something. They make choices or decisions and stand behind them.
- Intentional - True leaders are there for the long haul. The ebbs and flows of the moment and what others think do not throw these people off their course. Commonly, there is a quality about these people that allows them to tolerate no results longer than most others would allow. Eventually, the great ship of state turns and they seem to know this before anyone else.
- Infectious - Great leaders bring to the table a kind of charisma that is not simply charm or like-ability. They are able to speak in such a way that other people are inspired and moved to take actions that are consistent with their intentions.
- Reliability - They act and speak consistently over time. Upon observation, their actions are sound. Their thinking and reasoning make sense when all of the facts are considered.
- Implementer- Leaders make it happen. They would prefer to produce a result that puts a stake in the ground rather than blame others for why it didn’t happen. They know that action produces progress. They have the wisdom to recognize that both victories and failures come to those who “stand in the ring”.
